Week 5 Report
ICT Access Survey
I have completed the ICT Access Survey interviews. I will be posting the responses within the next 2 weeks. I am currently analyzing the results, and will be producing a summary of the results by Monday. I will post the summary within the next 2 weeks. I feel that the survey will be very helpful for CESESMA and any other organizations hoping to provide information technologies to the rural communities of San Ramon. The survey expresses the information needs of the community and the potential technologies that can be used to access this information. The survey also reveals deeper issues to overcome in providing open access to information in this rural community, such as the belief that technology is for younger generations only. I will discuss these findings further and in detail within the next 2 weeks.
CESESMA Information Technology Center
The proposal for the 14(?) desktop computers has been submitted to the US Peace Corps. I was, unfortunately, unable to be involved in this project, as I was focusing on the survey interviews. I do not believe these computers will arrive before I leave.
I will be researching this week the best practices for designing a mobile IT center. I am open to any suggestions on this project.
CESESMA Basic Computation Course
I am in the process of designing the course. I will download 2 typing tutorials onto the laptops, and I will write an instructor´s manual. The manual will be my first step in the design of the course. I have approximately 1 week and a half to design this course. I don´t believe I will be able to see a test run of the course, although I would very much like to.
UCA Information Technology Support
I was unable to provide much assistance to the UCA this past week due to my need to finish the survey interviews. I sat in on a staff training session, so I am aware of what new programs they are learning (Skype, Outlook, Google) and the Spanish vocabulary regarding those programs. I am available ("on call," if you will) to assist the UCA during these last two weeks here, but my priority is to get as far as possible with CESESMA´s projects and leave CESESMA with the ability to continue and finish the projects.
